The National Bread Week campaign is underway

The Bread Week entitled "Love Your Loaf" is gathering momentum and is designed to promote and highlight the benefits of Bread.

For too long Bread has been receiving bad publicity, and the FCBA feel that its about time it received a boost.

The week will have many activities and will be launched shortly.

The FCBA are delighted to announce the introduction of a national bread week.

The first ever week devoted to Irish bread takes place from 13th to 18th October 2014. National Bread Week, organised by Flour Confectioners and Bakers Association (FCBA), will be a consumer facing campaign that will encourage everyone to celebrate all that is great about Irish bread, using the call to action ‘Love Your Loaf’.


This campaign will see bakers, retailers and wholesalers across Ireland coming together to remind consumers of all the benefits of bread - its taste, value and versatility, as well as the part it plays in a healthy balanced diet. National Bread Week will give the Irish bread industry an opportunity to run on-pack promotions, special offers and in store events to celebrate bread and boost sales too. FCBA is therefore calling on all bakers – from craft bakers to industrial bakers - to sign up to take part. Businesses can register now with a fee from 250€ to 2,500€, depending on the size of their business.[1]


An integrated PR campaign is already being rolled out and will include a website and social media activity. Retailers will also be encouraged to support the campaign and a week long program of events and celebrations is being organised. A strong and vibrant campaign identity has been created and will be used across all media channels to encourage campaign recognition and engagement. Both bakers and retailers will be able to use the campaign logo and branding on-pack and also on their own POS material, to deliver standout in store and on shelf. Registered bakeries will also have the opportunity to use the free National Bread Week POS material available to decorate their shops during the week.


The brand new website ( will launch in August and will remind the public about the different types of Irish bread available and their heritage. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to discover bread recipes, learn about the life of bakers and millers in the industry, and share their own favourite bread images. Participating businesses’ details will also be included on the site so that the public can search for their local National Bread Week business.



Gerald Cunningham, Sales Manager, Ireland at Ireks and chair of National Bread Week 2014 said: “We are so excited about this campaign and delighted with the response so far from the Irish bakery sector. Ireland has such a strong bread heritage which needs to be celebrated by the industry and we want the public as a whole to love their loaves. We call on all bakers, millers, wholesalers and retailers to get involved so register now to take part in National Bread Week! We are also looking for sponsors to support National Bread Week in order to make it as successful as possible.”


A number of sponsorship opportunities exist for organisations wishing to support National Bread Week. Bronze, Silver and Gold sponsorship opportunities are still available with packages ranging from 250€ to 1000€. For companies taking the Gold package, branding will appear on campaign posters, in a How to Get Involved guide being produced for participating businesses, and on both the home page of the National Bread Week website and a dedicated sponsors section.
